“SFOP has been developing leaders in San Francisco congregations, schools and community centers for 25 years. We believe that San Francisco can be a city for all.”
Eleanor
Williams, SFOP Board President
Our Vision
SFOP believes that the quality of life for everyone who lives in San Francisco improves when we adopt policies that welcome families, seniors, and individuals of all racial and ethnic backgrounds, lifestyles, and economic capacities. Together with other PICO affiliates around the country, SFOP is creating a new vision that unites people across region, race, class, family structure and religion.
Local
Organizing Committees

SFOP is a
nonpartisan grassroots coalition of congregations and schools
working to create innovative solutions to the problems facing our city. We engage families, youth, and seniors in public life to create a safe, healthy, and livable city for everyone.
We work with Local Organizing Committees (LOCs) in over 30 congregations and schools representing 40,000 San Franciscans to develop community leaders and grassroots campaigns. Each LOC determines its own priorities and develops solutions at monthly meetings.

Community Leaders
The heart and soul of SFOP lies in the community leaders who inspire
the work of the LOCs. Hear what they say about their work:
“All four buses from San Francisco SFOP were full and they had to add a car for the overload; 208 of God’s people were on their way to join 3,000 in Sacramento to fight for healthcare for all of California’s children. All of us felt good about being there together as people of faith, knowing that having that faith we can build for further actions and finally will win.”
Dan, Pam, Michele, and Bea
SFOP Leaders, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church
“I am involved with SFOP because I can empathize with the plight of so many people that are living in cramped and overcrowded conditions in San Francisco. As Paul writes in his first letter to the Corinthians, each of us can be a block in building a better life for others. Each one of us can become an instrument for others to see that hope is possible.”
Alicia Esquivias
SFOP Leader, Corpus Christi Catholic Church
“A difficult divorce marked by domestic violence left me homeless. I had an affliction and being involved with SFOP has given me an opportunity to do something other than cry about my problems. I was suffering, but now I have been able to overcome my problems. Not everyone is able to overcome these difficulties. Now I am working to help those who have been left behind.”
