Making Our Voices Heard

SFOP works in over 30 congregations and schools representing 40,000 San Franciscans to develop community leaders and grassroots campaigns. SFOP has a broad-based constituency and our leaders influence public officials to make better decisions about important issues that affect us all -- health care, affordable housing, neighborhood safety, workforce development and education.

Putting Democracy into Action

The power of SFOP starts in the Local Organizing Committees (LOCs). In monthly meetings, community members identify problems and ways to solve them. SFOP is committed to social justice and change, no matter how long it takes. We believe the steps taken along the way are as important as the final result.

  • Listening to the community
  • Building one-on-one relationships
  • Research and policy analysis
  • Collaboration with other community organizations
  • Large “action meetings” with decision-makers
  • Joining other PICO organizations to tackle state and national concerns
“It’s been incredible for me to contribute my little grain of sand and to see how we’ve improved housing, the neighborhood and the whole world. I’ve been involved with SFOP for seven years and it has changed me a lot – I feel that I’m doing something for humanity.”     Olinda Orellana, St. Anthony’s SFOP Leader
